FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:
Mendocino Coast Recreation & Park District Regional Park Property
Community Clean-Up Day
Fort Bragg, CA – September 10, 2018
The Mendocino Coast Recreation and Park District (MCRPD) in partnership with the California Recreation Alliance (CRA) is organizing a community clean-up effort at MCRPD’s Regional Park (586 acre parcel located at Highway 20 and Summers Lane). The Regional Park Community Clean-Up Day is scheduled for Saturday, September 29, 2018 starting at 9:00 a.m.
To help fund clean-up efforts within the Regional Park, MCRPD applied for and was awarded a State of California, Cal Recycle Grant on June 21, 2018 in the amount of $41,525.00. The State Grant funding comes without a match requirement and will be used to purchase and install a security camera system on the property and to pay for dumpster rental and TIP fees for clean-up efforts. It is the intention of both MCRPD and CRA for this clean-up effort to address the disposal of tires and scrap metal that has been recovered and centralized from throughout the property during prior volunteer based clean-up efforts. Smaller metal parts will be placed in bins and larger pieces of metal will be mechanically loaded.
Volunteers from the community who would like to help with restoration efforts will be welcomed. CRA members will greet and organize community volunteers at the main entrance of the property at 9:00 a.m. for the three-hour morning shift and again at 1:00 p.m. for a three-hour afternoon shift. Volunteers may work more or less than a three-hour time block during the scheduled clean-up. MCRPD will provide lunch on site to all volunteers participating in the clean-up efforts.
Volunteers wishing to help are encouraged to wear long pants, closed toe shoes, gloves and should consider bringing small hand tools such as a shovel or clippers. To assist with clean-up efforts, volunteers may choose to bring an OHV which has been registered with either a green or red sticker. The use of OHV’s in this situation serves as a means for quickly traversing the various work sites throughout the property.
Helmets are required for all OHV use while on District property.
