Parent-Assisted Martial Arts

A group of adults and children posing in a martial arts studio, with flags and banners in the background.

Parent-assisted martial arts is a less formal space for young kids to work on foundational martial art and social skills. We will focus on courtesy, respect, and self-discipline. Children will learn how to take turns and how to avoid distracting their classmates. Tumbling will form a large part of our class. Children will learn forward and backward rolls, and how to diferentiate a roll from a somersault. We will also practice some big play and movements like running and jumping. Parent involvement is a key ingredient for success at this level. Structured play in a large space with mats will help students work on self-discipline. They will desperately want to play but they will have to work within the framework of the class and cooperate with the teacher, with parents, and with other kids in the room. The foundational skills of teamwork and focus that they can from this class will surely transfer beneficially to their ability to follow instructions at school and at home.
