Saturday, October 20, the Mendocino Coast Recreation and Park District is proud to present the first MendoCoast Youth Scooter and Sk8 Competition at the Fort Bragg City Skate Park behind CV Starr Community Center at 300 S. Lincoln Street. Registration opens onsite at 8 am and parents can register their kids until 9:30 am. All competitors must wear a helmet, while pads are recommended. The event kicks into action at 9 am starting it off with a free skate/scoot demo and warm up followed by the beginner level competitors and then the intermediates. Around noon we will break for the best trick contest, followed by advanced and finishing with awards starting around 1:30/2 pm. All times for actual competition are approximate according to attendance. Performers will ride two 40 second heats each aiming for their best score. First 50 kids, attendees and competitors, without helmets will receive a new Pro-Tech skateboarding helmet generously provided with the help of our friends at the Lost Surf Shack and co-funded by the California Recreation Alliance (CRA) and the Fort Bragg Police Department. Trophies awarded for first, second and third place in each beginner, intermediate and advanced levels in both skate boarding and scooter riding. Bring the family and friends and get loud with your support as we will be using our decibel meter to judge the contestants via the crowds’ cheers. $7 for the general competition and $3 for the best trick contest.
